Product in Process: The Wooden Shoe

A behind-the-scenes look at the making of our wooden shoe, The Magnolia.

Paavo has made our wooden shoes since 1999 and is still going strong. Paavo is using birch wood in our outsole. It is strong wood, and looks great when split in two. Actually, the wood looks different depending on which side of Finland the tree has grown.

The factory where our shoes are made is an old baseball bat factory in the middle of the Finnish countryside. It is called Myrskylä, which is the Finnish word for Thunder. It is located in Southern Finland and is part of the Eastern Uusimaa region. The municipality has a population of a little over 2000 people and covers an area of 206.36 square kilometres (79.68 sq mi), of which 5.98 km2 (2.31 sq mi) is under water.
